A journey through her life from 1968 to the Aids crisis. From throwing truckers out of the lesbian cafe, trying to be a star on the lesbian music scene to performing at the Valencia Rose when there were on 5 GAY comic in the world. Karen Ripley came onto the gay comedy scene in 1977 in San Francisco. From the cover of the East Bay Express (Berkeley, Ca) with Whoopi Goldberg to Ms. Magazines top 100 Lesbian Comic 2009. 2005 SF Fringe Best Musical Comedy with Annie Larson in the original play “Show Me where it Hurts,” and 2006 Diva Fest. with “Waiting for FEMA.” Ripley has traveled all over the USA and the Caribbean. She was also featured in Logo’s “Wisecrack” Episode 2. A comedy filled hour of the history of karen ripley how she got to be a stand up comic and why she’s hidfing from all her ex’s… www.karenripley.com You might have heard of Candace Roberts in light of her recent music video, “Not My City Anymore”, about the cultural/economic cleanse sweeping San Francisco right now. Candace is a San Francisco based singer/songwriter and cabaret performer. Since the release of her 2010 CD, “Honeymoon for One”, Candace has been in residence at Martuni’s Piano Bar in San Francisco, performing on the 4th Thursday of every month. There she sings, plays ukulele and tells stories with the support of her longtime piano accompanist, Larisa Migachyov. Candace guest stars in many long-running burlesque and variety shows (Little Minsky’s) as well as storytelling series (Bawdy Storytelling), she does private parties, gives house concerts and has played such local venues as the Fillmore, Cafe du Nord, the Lost Church and the Make-Out Room. Candace hopes to translate more of her songs into video as soon as possible. |
